The Blighted Lands
This large crater is all that is left of a civilization from the past after a cataclysmic event that left a large crater in it's wake.
Rumors say that the blighted lands are still riddled with magical artefacts and great knowledge. Despite this only few are willing to enter because even fewer return. The few who did return didn't get far because their path was blocked by miasma, also known as "The Blight" in more common terms and mysterious creatures that seem almost humanoid. Some scientists have set up camp along the edges of the crater to study it's properties and the civilization. But because they won't enter the crater themselves, they're more than willing to pay handsomely for any and all artefacts or information from these blighted lands.
