Peaceful Dullahan Ride
As many of you know, a dullahan is a type of legendary creature in Irish folklore, depicted as a headless rider on a black horse, commonly considered American short-story writer Washington Irving's inspiration for the iconography of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. Dullahans, male and female, have always been potrayed as violent/rowdy monsters of the night who love the thrill of terrorizing villages and country backroads... but this one in particular isn't like all the others.
Even though she is an undead horsewoman who sometimes carried her severed head tucked underneath her arm, Aoife de Búrca is as friendly as friendly can be, and the youngsters in some towns just adore her and her loyal jet-black stallion Geall-Oíche, so much so that she even gives out free horseback rides on certain days or nights. Right now, she's out on a nice solitary ride through a sweet, calming meadow, as the bright yellow moon begins to slowly rise over the horizon. Every now and then, her steed lets out a few calls into the night, and its noble rider, with her head under her arm as usual, humming an old song her mother used to sing to her in life before bedtime... it goes to show that just because monsters seem evil on the outside, that doesn't mean they're evil on the inside.
