galahad rides through forest
You never imagined that your friend was actually THE Sir Galahad, the one who was supposed to find the Cauldron of Life. But once you found out, you insisted on coming with him wherever he went.
"I can't let you put yourself in danger," He said. "As a Knight of Camelot, I insist that you remain behind, for your own safety."
"Well, as your best friend since before we both could walk, I insist on coming." You folded your arms.
Galahad sighed. "Y/N, this is going to be the most dangerous quest I've ever embarked on. It's not like training. This is real time. If something were to happen to you..." He trailed off and looked down.
"What?" You asked.
"It would be my fault." He said finally. His voice cracked and he looked away.
You paused. You'd never imagined the sort of pressure being 'the golden knight' actually meant. It wasn't like you had assumed he was born perfect (although that was up for debate), but you hadn't really given a thought to how it affected him personally.
"You don't have to be perfect, Galy." You said finally. "But even if you don't want me to come...I'll still go with you. We made a promise to always look out for each other, to have each others' backs when the world abandoned us. But that's going to mean nothing if I throw up my hands and sit down the minute I learn you're going on a dangerous quest. You've seen what I can do with a blade. I can protect myself if I have to. But I don't care about any of that. I just want to make sure that my best friend travels and gets back safely. Because there's no world for me without you in it."
Galahad sighed, relenting. "Alright. Just promise me you'll stick close."
You nodded. There was no danger of you leaving him. And this moment was probably not the best time to tell your friend the true nature of your feelings for him, but for now, you were going on that quest together.
For now, that would be enough.
