What it feels like in my fantasy world Serleche
This is exactly what it sounds like when you go through the portal to the world of Serleche.
At the place where both worlds meet, there stands an arch. It’s rather pretty, made of beautiful wood that never seems to age, no matter how old it gets. On stormy nights you might look out to see the arch: with wind blowing into it and wind blowing out of it; shadows cast in both directions, flickering with each gust of wind. Some nights, if you look at the arch, you can see a shadowy figure walking towards it, yet resisting it. Then the wind starts, and the arch is obscured.
One night I snuck out and walked toward the arch, just in case a passer-by happened to show up and go through the arch. The wind whispered in my ears and then the breeze settled. It was a quiet night, quite unusual for this time of year.
Then the clouds moved.
It wasn’t abnormal to see clouds move at night, yet for these clouds – looming and ominous – to see them move would strike fear into the hearts of many. The clouds slowed – and I sighed, letting out a breath that I didn’t know I’d been holding. The wind started blowing, but it left the dust so thickly laid on the ground untouched. It blew toward me and yet away from me at the same time. It was all around, and I couldn’t see anything. The dust on the ground started billowing up all around me, leaving me choking once the wind vanished without a trace.
Lightening struck, and all my muscles tensed. Thunder rolled in the distance. More lightning, this time closer. The ominous rumbling of thunder sounded in the nearby hills, and didn’t slow down or stop.
This was getting too scary. I wanted to go back.
The wind kicked in, this time coming from all directions. Aiming at me.
What happened next was alarming beyond compare.
The lightning moved closer – a strike here, a strike there – but at a superb rate. The thunder kept growling, low but dismal.
A foreboding sense came over me as the lighting came closer, strike by strike.
It was coming for me.
The wind had calmed down, but now it kicked up at full speed. Like a tornado.
The dust on the ground hadn’t stirred.
The wind started pulling me.
Pulling me toward the arch.
I tried to resist it, but I just couldn’t. It was too strong. I clawed at the dirt, hoping that it would hold me, but it wouldn’t.
The only thing that would keep me from the arch was the arch. It was the only stable thing around here. So I just let the wind take me, not struggling.
I was pulled the next hundred yards, limply lolling in the wind. It carried me to the arch, then stopped all of a sudden, with me less than two inches away from the arch.
It occurred to me suddenly that the arch couldn’t be that bad.
If the wind had carried me all the way there and then stopped, then the arch must not want to hurt me. I was curious. And, as they say, curiosity killed the cat.
In this case, though…
I just wanted to go into the arch so bad – I was suddenly overcome with a passion to enter into that arch and pass into the other world.
So I did. I walked into the arch with my head held high.
A flash of lightening, a final arduous breath.
The arch was a portal.
If you had been there at dawn, you would’ve seen someone struggle, clawing at the ground, then you would’ve seen them stride proudly through the arch – the same one they were trying to avoid. Then you would’ve seen a flash of lightening, and, finally, as the sun just barely peeked over the hills, ashes floating to the ground.
The arch is a portal to Serleche...
